Scientific Funding

Launched in 2019, the Misophonia Research Fund intends to fund up to 10 misophonia research grants annually. Each grant will provide up to $500,000 US dollars in total funding for a period of two to three years, depending upon the project’s needs, to support research projects led by doctoral level investigators (e.g. Ph.D., M.D., Psy.D. Au.D.) at qualifying research-based institutions. Applicant organizations must be a non-profit academic or research institution, including domestic and non-U.S. non-profit organizations, domestic and non-U.S. public/private academic universities or institutions of higher learning (including colleges, universities, medical schools, and other related academic research institutions); certain qualified governmental agencies with active biomedical research programs may also apply.

The Misophonia Research Fund also seeks to build the field of misophonia research by supporting postdoctoral researchers engaging in mentored research aligned with the strategic priorities of the Misophonia Research Fund. Postdoctoral grants may provide up to $200,000 US dollars in funding for a period of two to three years, depending upon the project’s needs. Eligible applicants must have obtained their terminal degree by July 1, 2024.

For its sixth cycle, the MRF accepted applications for research projects that seek to better understand misophonia, characterize symptomatology and associated impairments, and assess interventional strategies to treat those with the disorder. The scientific focus of proposals shall address one or more of the following three prioritized focus areas in human, animal, or relevant research models: 1) Characterization of misophonia, 2) Development or validation of objective methods, and/or 3) Clinical and/or animal model study of interventional approaches. For additional information, see the Request for Proposals (RFP) below. Grants are selected for funding based on a two-stage letter of intent and full proposal process. All proposals undergo peer review. Funding decisions are made by The REAM Foundation board of directors.
